Before You're Session Although it is not required, it is recommended that we do a consultation prior to your session to ensure a positive experience that produces the images you desire. I'll start by asking about your vision, preferences, and needs. We'll discuss locations, time of day, clothing selection, and confirm your appointment. Your portrait session with Vivid Light Photography will be an experience we create together that captures and portrays you and your family's individual personality. Location An important factor in choosing a location is that it be a place where you or your family are most comfortable and can have fun. Each session may last anywhere from one to four hours, allowing plenty of time for feedings (newborns), play, snacks, outfit changes, and getting to know one another. You are never rushed as often the best images occur when everyone has forgotten about the camera and can truly be themselves. Several popular locations in the Farmington Hills area include Heritage Park, the Warner Mansion, Shiawassee Park, and don't forget your own backyard or living room. At Vivid Light Photography we prefer to shoot with available light for a more natural looking portrait. However, we are equipped with professional studio lighting so we can shoot anywhere and any time of the year. Many headshot sessions are done inside and model portfolio's can be shot inside, outside, or both. Glasses We strongly recommend that you talk to your eye doctor about borrowing a pair of frames without the lenses similar to what you wear to be used during your portrait session. Lenses can reflect like a mirror leaving a glare in the final portrait that even digitally is very difficult to correct. Clothing Although clothing is a personal choice there are some guidelines that will help create a more pleasing portrait. It's always a good idea to pack a few choices of clothing so we can try a couple different outfits for variety and fun Things that work well are: bare feet, jeans, casual pants, hats, solids, sweaters, vests, polo shirts, solid blouses, casual dresses, matching outfits for families. If you're going to wear a sports uniform please make sure it's clean. Things to avoid are: wrinkles, tennis shoes, busy prints and patterns, logos, writing on shirts, sleeveless shirts, shorts, extremely short skirts, contrasting colors. Keep in mind that light colors look larger than dark colors, meaning the eye will go to the lightest and brightest area first. Off white or ivory also photograph better than true white. These are only recommendations and not the rules. Depending on the style, individual, and type of image being created some alternatives to the suggestions above may work just fine. Women's Make-Up Eye shadow should be used sparingly. A light foundation or base gives a complexion an even tone. Use powder to eliminate shine. A blusher gives the skin a healthy glow. Coordinate lipstick with outfit worn. If your make-up is professionally done you may want to experiment before the day of your session. Major rearranging of hair is not possible on location due to time limits. No glitter make-up or sparkles in hair. The reflections from a flash if used are sometimes difficult to edit out later. Image Proofs Once your portrait session has been completed your image proofs will be uploaded to your own personal online image gallery within one week. This gallery is for you, your family, and friends to view and order prints from and can be accessed through our customer galleries link. Just click on the link and look for your name or event under recent photos. If you would like your proofs posted in black & white as well as color please notify us during your portrait session. If you're uncomfortable with having personal images online we can add or remove a password to your gallery at any time. Prints Once you decide on the images you would like to order and have printed we will discuss the size, quantity, and style. Together we'll review each image individually and discuss cropping, touch-ups, and which image effects if any you prefer. For example, most portraits look better with a darkening and softening around the edges however, it's truly a personal decision based on your style and tastes. All images are shot digitally in color however, if you choose we will be glad to process and print any image in black & white, sepia, or a variety of traditional colored paper tones. |
